Dr. Susannah “Susie” Bannon is a formerly incarcerated activist-scholar, educator, and organizer based in Austin, Texas. As a rhetorical critic, her research examines the way discourse constitutes identities, influences public policy, and structures the world and the role of communication in social movement.
Dr. Bannon holds a B.A. in Communication Studies from the University of Houston-Downtown (2012), an M.A. in Communication Studies from Texas State University (2014), and a Ph.D. in Communication Studies from the University of Texas at Austin (2020).
A firm believer in the power of community organizing to achieve social change, Susie has been involved in local and state level advocacy since 2014. She is also co-founder of the Formerly Incarcerated College Graduates Network. Susie joined the Alliance for Higher Education in Prison as Assistant Director in December 2022.
