A new program is starting at the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to pair South Carolina youth with formerly incarcerated mentors, a partnership between the department and Credible Messenger Mentoring Movement (CM3). As the CEO of Path2Redemption, a partner of CM3, JLUSA Senior Movement and Capacity Building Specialist Lester Young will join the new program as a volunteer mentor.
“‘I know how it feels to be let down. I know how it feels to feel like no one cares about you,’ Young said.
“‘I’ve been in prison for 22 years and 5 months, I know what that feels like. But it was because of volunteers — like myself, that I am now — that I want to do the same exact thing.'”
